Afro as the name suggests is a hairstyle in which hair is extended outwards from head to result into a ball or halo. This is the combination of an African heritage or better said more preferred by the person of the African American Origin who likes to grow their hair in its natural way long. Afro is the word for natural in short. This hairstyles became very popular in 1960’s and as well as in 1970’s. Later the craze of this kind of hair turned into the foundation of straightening the natural kinky type of hair into the artificial straight hair. The wavy hairstyle was made into straight hair with steam. Since 1980’s onwards natural hair drying came into the fashion and afro hairstyle is the one being preferred by many people.
Afro hair styles is covered in many styles today. The most popular one is called Tenny Weenie Afro [TWA] in which the natural hair strands measure only 1 to 3 inches in length. A typical afro is however, growing the black hair to a longer length of 6 inches. With black hair this style does look much shorter. The hair that measures 4 inches in afro will reach a foot long when straightened. For this style hair is washed then conditioned, braised and eventually oiled when it is wet and then allowed to dry. When dried, the braids are made of hair and hair is picked out with the use of comb, specifically afro comb.
Modern afro is however, a curly one. It is done by washing hair, blow drying or making it straight with the use of hot comb. Then hair is separated into smaller parts and twisted or rolled. It is then kept for a couple of days then braids are removed, hair will look wavy with a distinctive curly look. It largely depends upon the processing of hair before twisting or braiding and size of braids. A headband will pose more fullness to hair in back and keeps the front hair completely out of face. Afro is thus unique kind of texture and hair styling.
